Boquete is a district located north of the province of Chiriqui, west of Panama. It has an area of 488.4 km2 and a population of 22,435 inhabitants. This district is known for having a temperate climate, unlike much of the country, because the district is located in the Central Cordillera. Its capital is the city of Bajo Boquete.
Boquete is the main mountainous destination of Panama and is considered one of the best destination in the world for a vacation or retirement home. Located near the border with Costa Rica, its central attraction is the inactive Barú Volcano that is 11,400 feet high, which offers spectacular views and has blessed the area with a rich volcanic soil that produces exceptional flora and fauna. It is possible to travel to Boquete by car or bus. Air Panama has daily flights from Panama City to the nearest city to Boquete, David. From David you can rent a car or take a taxi ($ 30) – they are 45 minutes from David to Boquete. You can go from Panama City to Boquete by car – about 7 hours – or you can take a bus ($ 15) from the Albrook Bus Terminal to David and take a taxi to Boquete. There are also “midnight” buses so you can sleep all the way and wake up in the morning in Boquete.
